Art, Social Justice, and Soul Making Workshop

e1351536289

10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2018

Several ArtSeed teens are taking this workship at the Women’s Building thanks to Susan Bostrom-Wong, a women’s group figure drawing artist at Park Presidio United Methodist Church who designed the Labyrinth Garden at ArtSeed Labyrinth Studios.

How can art stand as a voice for social justice and healing? In this workshop we will build on the presentations of three artists and their work, in dialog with participants. We will use the documentary, “A New Color: The Art of Being Edythe Boone.” featuring activist Edythe Boone as the foundation of the day to explore how art, creativity, and community can bring together diverse groups of people to heal and express a desire for social justice. We will build on this with a presentation of art memorializing the dead. Additionally, we will have an experiential art activity to create a temporary community that will weave together the individual experience of hope, grief, loss, and activism into a communal whole.

Tuition is $75. Learn more and/or register.

Location:
The Women’s Building, 3543 18th Street, San Francisco, CA, 94110

Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope Documentary Screening was held last Wednesday, January 31 at the Landmark Theatre Opera Plaza in San Francisco

The Ardicare Foundation, in partnership with ArtSeed, Think RoundInc., Kaiser Permanente, and the Western Institute for Social Research, held a screening of the documentary, Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope.

The purpose of this event was to raise public awareness about the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on health across the lifespan and the movement to address them. Ticket proceeds benefit the Community Self-care Demonstration Program (CSDP) implementations in the San Francisco Bay Area. ArtSeed is grateful to Ardicare for staff development that supports our healing arts initiative.

Please consider making a donation to the Ardicare Foundation to support the ongoing work of bringing the CSDP to communities everywhere. Any amount helps! Your show of support is deeply appreciated. Making a donation is very easy. There is a donate button on the website www.turningthetideoftrauma.org.  All proceeds go to the implementation of the community program.
