We are looking for experienced teachers in visual arts, dance, theater, or woodshop.

This summer, we are planning three 2-week sessions and one 1-week session beginning the week of June 20th and ending August 19. Art instructors may work one or more sessions, with preference given to those qualified applicants who are willing to work more than one session.

Each summer camp day is divided into 2 class periods. Class times are 10am-12noon and 1pm-3pm. Art instructors can opt to teach one or two classes a day; that is, either just the morning or just the afternoon or both. Most instructors teach one subject morning and afternoon, adjusting the activities to the different age groups. In this manner, they get more hours and make more money. Pay is $40 per contact hour.

Each class is 20 hours.

Each group of campers comes with a counselor who greets them and signs them in each morning and signs them out at the end of the day. Except during counselor break times, there will be a counselor in class with the campers to assist instructors. The camps are grouped by ages: 6-8 and 9-12. Maximum number of campers per group is 17.

Produced by The Field, the GoTour Road Show gives independent performing artists working in dance, theater, music, text, performance art and mixed disciplines a chance to perform in New York City in May 2005. By ”independent” we mean artists–sometimes also called individual or emerging artists–who don’t have institutional support such as consistent funding, touring, or production opportunities.

Ten national and five New York-based Road Show winners will participate in a shared weekend performance event, which also includes a transportation stipend, a press junket, opening night reception, and the opportunity to meet other artists and presenters from New York City and around the country.

HOW TO ENTER:

To enter the contest, first log on to www.gotour.org and check out the site. Then, in 500 words or fewer, tell us what it means to be an independent artist and why you want to tour your work. Winners will be chosen by you! All applicants will have the opportunity to read the applicant essays and nominate the ones which capture best the spirit of independent artists and touring.

I am looking to sublet my studio while teaching in Greece 600sq. ft. –$600- mo. (utilities included) located at 12th and Folsom mid-Feb. to mid-June, non live-in.

As some of you may already know, I’ve become increasingly bicoastal in the past few years. I’m still based in San Francisco, but I have been renting shared space in New York as well. Amy X Neuburg and I are currently looking for a third person to time-share our lovely (and very inexpensive!) apartment in Brooklyn. This should be someone who lives outside New York but would like to spend time there often enough to need an occasional place. I use the place an average of one week per month, Amy uses it less often but in longer chunks — that sort of thing. (Sometimes we overlap, which works fine because we have the same sleeping and drinking habits.)

If you’ve been looking for a situation something like this, or if you know someone who would want to have a part-time NY pied a terre, here are the details:

The rent would be $229/month (The room is $685 and we’d split that 3 ways)

– This 2-bedroom apartment belongs to Matt Moran– a charming, busy musician whom we like very much. He has one bedroom, the rest of us time-share the other.

– Recently renovated, nice wood floors, new modern kitchen (dishwasher etc.)

– Small living room and dining room areas, cozy and inviting, and Matt has put a lot of work into the decor.

– Our bedroom is large-ish (for a NY Apt) with lots of light, closets. Very quiet.

– Ground floor of a secure1940s? Apartment building. (Easy schlep!)

– Located in the Kensington neighborhood. It’s safe, clean, lots of little restaurants (Bangladeshi, Italian, Asian, Albanian, Russian). It’s not a trendy or hip ‘hood, but it’s 2 train stops from upscale Park Slope.)

– 2 short blocks from the F Train. (Church Ave. Station) — F is a great line for getting into Manhattan, runs often. Stops on lower east side, SoHo, and West Village. And goes up near MoMa in MidTown etc.

It’s a little much for Amy and I to keep splitting only 2 ways so we need to find a third person as soon as possible. (We’d like to find someone by the first week of Feb if possible.) Female roomate is probably best. We’ll need to share the room any time our NY time overlaps. (Just like back in the dorm days…)
